Robotics Club (4th-5th grades) - 3 spots left!

Students in 4th and 5th grades are invited to join the Robotics Club offered by Science Coordinator, Stephanie Dobbie. This club is limited to 14 students. Due to limited space, you must sign up to reserve your child's spot.

Please email sdobbie@manzanodayschool.org to sign up.

Students will be using the Lego Mindstorms products to build and program robots. Students need NOT be lego fanatics or have any experience with robots or programming.

The fall session of Robotics Club will meet on Wednesday afternoons, 3:45-4:45 p.m., from September 7 through November 16

Robotics Club is free for Manzano Day School students.  Students will go to Extended Day at the end of the school day and will be picked up from there and brought to the Science Lab at 3:45.  I suggest you pack a snack for your child to eat after school. At 4:45, students will be dismissed to their parents or escorted to Extended Day.

Nurse's Notes

Is your child sick?  Should they stay home? Sometimes that can be a tough question.  If your child has had diarrhea, vomiting or a temperature of 100° or above within the last 24 hours, your child should stay home.  Your child needs rest.  Rest will help your child recover quicker and help prevent other children from getting sick.

Sometimes it’s not so easy to tell if your child is sick.  If your child is lethargic, not eating normally, coughing uncontrollably, or not acting normally you might consider that your child might be coming down with something.  Sometimes it is ok to send them to school to see if they can make it through the day.  You know your child better than anyone.  We will call you to pick up your child if your child’s condition becomes worse throughout the day.

If you take your child to the doctor and they are diagnosed with a contagious disease or condition please notify the nursing staff.  Contagious conditions or diseases are things such as Strep throat, pink eye, lice, etc. If you are unsure please call the Nurse’s office. Information regarding exposures will be sent out via e-mail to all who may have been exposed.

Sometimes your child will require medication during the school day.  If this occurs a Medication Administration Form must be filled out and returned to the nursing staff to ensure safe medication administration.  This includes over the counter and herbal medications.  The form is located in the nurse’s office and online under the On Campus tab on the left side of the Health and Well Being page under Health Forms.  We cannot administer medications without a Medication Administration Form

Remember, sick kids need to stay home so they can recover.  This also helps the rest of our community stay healthy.  Please feel free to contact our office any time with comments, concerns, or ideas you have for us to better promote health and wellness for your child while at school.  Our email is nurse@manzanodayschool.org.  Thank you.

From the Admission Office

If you have a child who is a sibling (new to Manzano Day School) who will be applying for the 2017-2018 school year, please go to our website and complete the online application and parent questionnaire, and submit the $80.00 application fee.  If you want your child’s admission file to be in the “sibling preference pool” (please see your Family Handbook, page 32) you must have his/her admission paperwork, as stated in the Handbook, completed by Thursday, December 15.

If you have questions, please stop by and see Madonna or Emily, or call either one at 243-6659.

FROM THE DEVELOPMENT OFFICE

It was our honor to present Maggie Simms with the Ruth Hanna McCormick Simms Alumni Award at the Ringing of the Bell on August 17, 2016. Maggie started kindergarten at Manzano Day School in 1952 and has been associated with the school in many capacities since then. We are honored to have her as a loyal supporter and embodiment of the Manzano Day School mission.

Know an outstanding Alum? Please contact Clara Kilcup in the Development office at 243-6659, ext. 204, should you wish to nominate an outstanding Manzano Day School graduate.

                                      Hearty Congratulations, Maggie!
