Auction Teasers

You may be asking yourself, why should I buy a ticket to the Gala? Maybe the chance to pull a bottle of Dom Pérignon in the Wine Pull just isn't your thing. Perhaps you aren't interested in funding the Endowment to ensure Manzano Day School is around to serve many more generations of families. That's okay, we've still got a few things in our bag of tricks. In fact, let us introduce you to some of the (incredibly awesome) items that will be featured.

Want to try something new around town? These businesses have generously donated gift certificates and/or experiences you won't find anywhere else:

Stone Age Climbing Gym

Los Poblanos Inn and Organic Farm

Sandia Golf Club

National Museum of Nuclear History

If your daydreams are tropical, head to The Ocean Reef Club for a Live Auction item sure to WOW!

Don't see anything of interest to you here?

Stay tuned, there's much more to come!

If you have an exquisite item, service, or experience to donate to the Gala , or if you have any questions, please contact the Development Office.

Grain's Group

How Much Do We Need?

The USDA recommends that at least half of your grains are whole grains. Eating grains provides many health benefits.  People who eat whole grains as a part of a healthy diet have a reduced risk of some chronic diseases such as heart disease, constipation, and some types of cancer.

Grains also provide many nutrients that are vital for the health of our bodies such as dietary fiber, which important in healthy bowel function.  Grains also provide several B Vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin which are important in metabolism and a healthy nervous system.  Folate helps the body to form red blood cells and reduces the risk of neural tube defects, spina bifida, and anencephaly during fetal development.  Whole and enriched grain products also provide minerals such as non-heme iron which are important in carrying oxygen in our blood; magnesium, a mineral used in building bones and releasing energy from muscles; and selenium, a mineral that protects our cells from oxidation which is important in a healthy immune system.

Examples of an ounce of grain are one slice of bread, one cup of ready-to-eat cereal, one half cup of cooked rice, pasta or cereal.  For more information on grains and the Grain Group, including recipes, visit ChooseMyPlate.gov.

Below is a graph demonstrates how much of the Grain Group we need each day.
