Manzano Day School Parents' Association

I am excited to welcome you as a valued member of the Manzano Day School Parents’ Association (MDSPA). Every parent is automatically a member, and we look forward to volunteering with you in order to make our year a success. Your time, effort and talents are invaluable, and we thank you in advance!

The MDSPA works under the direction of the Board of Trustees and in conjunction with the school administration in accomplishing the mission and goals of the school, to foster community involvement through volunteer opportunities, to build a strong community by providing social opportunities for the children and families, to raise funds for the benefit of the school and to support the faculty and staff. Heading the MDSPA is the executive committee, which is comprised of parent volunteers from each grade level who work throughout the year to ensure the goals of MDSPA are reached. The Executive Committee welcomes parents to approach us with any questions or concerns. We are here to represent you!

One goal of MDSPA is to share information about campus and community topics that affect our students. We host six general meetings with our Head of School, Neal Piltch, and other presenters, covering topics such as standardized testing, tuition, the budget and social issues at school. Also, the monthly Executive Committee meetings are open to all members.

MDSPA is proud to sponsor and organize many fun events and activities around campus to foster strong community and school pride. Fall Festival, Yummies for Tummies, Manzano Day School clothing sales, school supply sales and Spring Fiesta are just a few examples of the “friend”raising/fundraising activities. I often hear the question: where does the fundraising money go? While creating fun opportunities, MDSPA also works hard to help raise funds to support the school’s endowment (10% of MSDPA gross income) and Teacher Fellowship Award ($5,000) each year, along with allocating surplus funds at the end of the year to various projects to improve our school, such as adding benches to the campus, contributing to the Wings Scholarship Program and purchasing equipment for the science lab. In 2013-2014, MDSPA contributed over $20,000 back to the school on such projects, along with honoring the faculty and staff twice a year with gift cards and an appreciation lunch in the spring.

Parent volunteers are essential to these “friend”raising events and activities! It is a great way to get involved and to get to know parents, teachers and what is happening on campus. We hope you will consider helping at events, becoming an event chair and/or volunteering to become part of the MDSPA Executive Committee the following school year. In the Back-to-School packet is a form describing the various activities and identifying their respective contact persons. Please continue the proud tradition of the MDSPA community and search out opportunities to volunteer during the coming year. You’ll find that your participation is rewarding and fun!
