Student Success

Through your expertise as caregivers and our mastery as educators, this essential partnership strengthens the academic success and social and emotional development of your child. At Manzano Day School, we value the school-to-home connection and look to our core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, and striving for excellence to set high expectations within a nurturing environment. The outcome is Joy in Learning®.

Our Approach to Assessment

Students enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade at Manzano Day School participate in a variety of assessments each school year. These include standardized and norm-referenced measures of skills, as well as those specific to our curricula. Data is used to guide instructional planning, including differentiation, setting goals for students' learning, and to drive curriculum development. Manzano Day School views assessment as a snapshot of student progress, recognizing that the whole child is made up of far more than their performance on assessments.

Research shows that dexterity in reading and language correlates to stronger engagement, classroom community, critical thinking and confidence. The Peterson Learning Center, gifted to Manzano Day School in 1999 by Jim and Mary Peterson, provides extra support to students who present with reading and/or language challenges. Students meet with dedicated faculty during their scheduled literacy time to work in small groups on more focused activities, tailored to strengthen their reading and language competency. Parent engagement is a key factor in student success; therefore, parents can receive resources regarding their student’s academic development and strategies to create environments that foster Joy in Learning® both in the classroom and at home.
