Nurse's Notes: Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight is very important to both kids and adults. If you weigh too much or too little it could indicate a problem. Today 1 out of 3 kids and 2 out of 3 adults are either overweight or obese. Being overweight can lead to many illnesses or health problems. A child who is overweight may find it hard to keep up with their friends on the playground and is susceptible to teasing.

How does this happen? It occurs when the body receives more calories than it burns off through physical activities. Through modern advances such as televisions and computers it is easy to develop a sedentary lifestyle. It is important to watch what you eat. Avoid soft drinks and unnecessary sugars.
