If you have a child who is a sibling (new to Manzano Day School) who will be applying for the 2019-2020 school year, we need your completed application and parent questionnaire along with the $80.00 application fee. If you want your child’s admission file to be in the “sibling preference pool” (please see your Family Handbook, page 33) you must have his/her admission paperwork, as stated in the Handbook, completed by Saturday, December 15.

Often time’s parents are worried about Strep throat; however, there are many viruses that also can cause a sore throat. Symptoms of Strep throat are a red, painful throat, with or without white patches, on the tonsils, swollen lymph nodes, a fever, headache, sometimes nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The only way to diagnose Strep throat is with a throat culture. Strep throat can be treated with antibiotics, but viruses cannot. A viral infection usually gets better in a few days without any intervention.

If a viral sore throat is what you have there are some things you can do to help relieve some of the symptoms. Such as taking Tylenol to help with the pain, warm salt water gargles, or suck on throat lozenges. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and get enough sleep, within a few days you will be as good as new.

Please contact the nurse’s office at 243-6659 if your child has a strep infection or any other contagious illness. Our office will notify all parents in the grade level by e-mail of this contagious exposure so that necessary precautions can be taken. To prevent further spread and keep kids healthy, remember to encourage good hand washing techniques, especially after coughing, sneezing, and before preparing food or eating. If you child is diagnosed with strep throat or any other contagious disease, please keep them home for at least 24 hour after then have been or antibiotics or until your doctor tells you they are not contagious. Remember, if your child has a fever of 100° or above, if you child has been vomiting, or if your child has diarrhea please keep for child home for 24 hours after they are symptom free.

Cold mornings and warm afternoons create overflowing lost and found bins. Please check the lost and found bins the next time you are on campus. Bins are kept around campus for large items, i.e., jackets, sweaters, hats, lunchboxes, etc. Smaller items, i.e. jewelry, watches, cash, keys, etc. are kept in the Front Office.

There are two ways to help, and neither require a huge time commitment.

1.) Please talk to your friends, family and co-workers about Manzano Day School. Bring up Manzano Day School to them, and tell them what you love about it. The vast majority of new families at our school each year come through referrals from our current parents.

2.)  We would like to make more of a personal connection with prospective families going through the admission process. We will ask our Parent Ambassadors to call 5 families during the course of the admission process to make a personal, parent to parent connection with them. It may not take more than about 20 minutes of your time to make these calls but it will have a huge impact on our school!

Good Apple Singers -This is a singing group for fourth and fifth graders who wish to have extra performance experience. A variety of music is learned and performed, including upbeat, choreographed numbers. Two rehearsal times are open to students, but they need only attend one per week. Rehearsals are held on Mondays after school from 3:45 to 4:30 pm and  Wednesdays before school from 7:45 to 8:20 am.

The Good Apple Singers are asked to sing for events outside of school and have traditionally participated in the annual Old Town Tree Lighting, the first Friday of December. I will notify parents of all events in a timely fashion and you will have the opportunity to commit at that time.

There is no charge for Good Apple Singers. Please do notify Extended Day if your child usually goes there before or after school on a Good Apple Day.

Mark your calendars for this year’s Holiday Pops with the New Mexico Philharmonic. All Manzano Day School families are welcome to attend. The Holiday Pops will be held this year on December 22, 2018 at 6:00 pm at Popejoy Hall. Please visit this LINK for more information.
