Manzano Day School Parents' Association
Dear Manzano Day School Parents,
Welcome to the Manzano Day School Parents’ Association (MDSPA). As parents of Manzano Day School students, we are all members! We work closely with school administration and the Manzano Day School Board of Trustees to foster a fun family atmosphere and raise funds to support our amazing teachers and staff.
Every year the executive committee along with our volunteers organize numerous events. Our first event will be the Fall Festival on Sunday, September 11. This is a great event where families and students can all connect with each other and our faculty and have fun on campus. MDSPA also holds our monthly bake sale, Yummies for Tummies, as well as school photos, Spring Fling, and the used book sale.
The 2021-2022 school was our year to ease back into normalcy. We all worked hard to help everyone in the community who was ready and able to get involved and celebrate our children, faculty, and teachers. We had a successful Fall Festival, an exciting new fun run for Spring Fling, and very busy monthly Yummies for Tummies events. We were able to show appreciation to our faculty and teachers with gift cards, appreciation breakfasts and an updated look to the lounge! The association contributed $5,000 to the Teacher Fellowship Award to help fund Ms. Tesa Hering’s vision of bringing the virtual reality learning pilot program to Manzano Day School. It’s exciting to hear about all the different learning experiences our children have because MDSPA can contribute to some of the incredible ideas and visions our wonderful teachers have here at Manzano.
The work of the Parents’ Association is done by volunteers who put in countless hours to make our events a success. Look in your back-to-school packets and online for descriptions of all the activities and do not hesitate to send an email or text to sign up. Also, make sure to look out for SignUpGenius links.
The MDSPA hosts general meetings throughout the year. This year, we look forward to hosting an open forum with the head of school, Cathy Hubbard, as well as meetings with our counselor, Jodie Hart.
Each year, a group of volunteers serve on the MDSPA executive committee. This year’s executive committee members are Tiffany Martin (Pre-k/K VP), Georgia Manjoros-Serna (1st Grade VP), Casey Dettmer (2nd Grade VP), Sonia Martinez (3rd Grade VP), Maria MCCready (4th Grade VP), and Lindsay Shettlesworth (5th Grade VP). Other members include Danielle Olivas (Past President), Jonathan Maple (Treasurer), Cai Buck (Secretary), Laura Erway (Board Liaison), President Elect (TBD), and me, Carmelita Casillas, this year’s President.
Please reach out to any one of us for more information at any time. We look forward to a fantastic year at Manzano Day School full of joy and community building. We are passionate about our Manzano Day School family and greatly appreciate the support from all.
