Nurse's Notes - Eating Dinner as a Family

We all are busy, and this is a good time to remind ourselves how important our families are to us. A great way to show your children how much you care is to have dinner as a family. Having dinner together is a great way to know what is going at school, who is your child's best friend, what book your child is reading, etc. There are many advantages to eating as a family. Here are a few:

  1. Children of families who eat together do better in school
  2. Children of families who eat together get along better with other children
  3. Children of families who eat together eat more nutritious meals
  4. Eating together teaches family traditions and builds stronger families
  5. Eating together teaches dinning etiquette
  6. Eating together saves money
  7. Family meals are a great time to practice family values and spiritual beliefs

We all find ourselves busy, but eating together is a great way to have family time. The meal does not have to be fancy. If you have to, turn off the phone and the TV. Talk about what went on during the day. The important thing is to have time together as a family.
