Clubs & Organizations

Chess Club

Chess Club is open to students in Kindergarten through fifth grade who are interested in improving their knowledge of chess, and who enjoy playing both for friendly competition and for fun. Chess Club meets from 3:30-4:45 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students must be pre-registered in order to participate; choice of day will be set during registration. Space is limited.

Manzano Day School students compete in the Albuquerque Schools Chess League against students from other independent schools as well as area public schools and students who are homeschooled. The league sponsors six tournaments each school year, which are typically scheduled from October through March. The tournaments take place during evening hours at different sites around the Albuquerque metro area.

Garden Club

Garden Club is open to students from first through fifth grade, parents, teachers, and staff. Pre-k and kindergarten students are welcome to attend with a parent. Garden Club participants plant, weed, harvest, and tend to the garden. We meet monthly in the fall and spring from 7:45-8:15 a.m. Specific dates will be announced in the Friday Bulletin. Good Apple Singers

Good Apple Singers is an ensemble singing group for fourth and fifth graders who wish to have more experience performing. A variety of music is learned and performed, including upbeat, choreographed numbers. Rehearsals are held on Mondays from 3:45 - 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7:45 - 8:20 a.m. If your student is interested in Good Apple Singers, please contact Jamie Jones (jjones@manzanodayschool.org).

Jump Rope Club

Jump Rope Club is an after school club that meets in the gym from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on Mondays. The club is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Jump Rope Club is a fun and active way for students to move and learn basic jump rope skills. Students also have the opportunity to try out for the Red Hot Pepper Jump Rope Team. The Red Hot Pepper Jump Rope Team meets on Tuesdays from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Students learn more advanced jump rope techniques, and also participate in performances at local schools and in the Albuquerque community. Battle of the Books

Fourth and fifth grade students are invited to join the Manzano Day School Battle of the Books team. Team members read a variety of books selected from a list, and meet with their parents to share observations and information about literature selections. Students who read ten or more books from the list are eligible to compete in the New Mexico Battle of the Books with other students from across the state. Science Club

Science Club is for students in kindergarten through third grade. Students participate in a variety of age-appropriate science investigations as well as engineering activities. The club meets after school from 3:45-4:30pm in the Bernitsky Science Lab (room 410) for five sessions. The fall session will be for second and third grade students, while the spring session is for students in kindergarten and first grade. There is no cost for this club. Yearbook Club

Yearbook Club is open to fifth grade students and meets during school hours once per six-day rotation. Yearbook Club students are involved in all aspects of creating and publishing the yearbook. They do everything from choosing a theme, to taking photographs, designing page layout, and editing. Students join at the beginning of the school year and finish the yearbook in March.
